Change your tomorrow today
One platform for all your applications, built on a single record
For twenty years, your applications decided what went into your record. Better Platform turns this around. You own one governed record, and your clinicians can add as many applications as they need, without any of them owning your data.

Store, govern and query
structured and unstructured data
Your clinical data repository keeps each patient’s lifelong, structured record in openEHR. Your operational data repository keeps demographics, identity, scheduling, referrals and workflow status in HL7 FHIR. You can query both from one place.

Data in from all your systems
data out through open exchange
The Interoperability Hub brings in data from the systems you use today and the ones you are retiring. It then shares that data through open interfaces, so the record you own is one you can also share.
You send a request in
you get a governed application back
Your clinicians or partners describe what they need in plain language, or build it from clinical models. The platform links every field to the right place in the record, checks the data before it’s saved, and adds access control and audit automatically. You get a governed, versioned application running in your own environment.
Package care processes once
run them across the whole region
When care plans, tasks and pathways cross organisations, they need one shared home. That home should be run by the region or its chosen operator, not by a single provider. The Workflow Server gives you this. You define care processes once on the shared record, and they run across primary, hospital, community and social care.

Every user and every tool has an identity, a policy and an audit trail
Control access and audit down to each field, not just each application. Clinicians, integrations, partner products and AI assistants are all treated as users or services, each with its own policy. Nothing gets in unless your health system admits it, and everything you allow follows the same rules.
PolicyMedication orders on wards of the current placement. Read and write.
Audit142 reads, 8 writes today. Ward 7, 09:14 to 16:02.
PolicyFull clinical record where a care relationship exists. Break-glass recorded.
AuditEvery read carries patient, purpose and location.
PolicyRead observations and medication orders for the current admission. No write.
AuditEvery call logged, same rules as a clinician.
AI that works on data it can understand, under rules it cannot bypass
Your record is structured and governed, and that is the difference between AI on a document pile and AI on a record.
Default state. Nothing reaches the patient record until the health system admits it.
Access control and audit apply to every user and service, human or machine, in every state above.

Works alongside your current systems does more than any one of them
- 1
Next to your EHR
Better Platform adds a shared, lifelong record across organisations, and the applications you build on it.
- 2
More than an integration engine
It connects your systems and stores the data in one structured record that every application can reuse.
- 3
More than a data platform
One governed record supports analysis, clinical applications and care processes, with access and audit down to each field.
- 4
More than an app builder
You build applications on shared clinical models. The platform provides the record, access, control and audit.
- 5
More than an AI add-on
Approved AI tools work on the shared, structured record, within the permissions the your health system sets.
The EHR of the future is not an application
It is a record you can build on, run care from and talk to
- 1
For applications
Clinical templates define the fields and their rules, such as units, value sets, which fields are required and which are coded. The App Builder uses them to generate the screen. So the screen is built from the record, rather than designed first and connected to it later.
- 2
For systems
Applications built on the platform connect to the record, not to each other. Your existing systems connect once, through the Interoperability Hub.
- 3
For AI
When your record is structured and governed, AI tools can work directly on it, with the same access control and audit as a person. You can ask a question in plain language and get an answer from the data the tool is allowed to see.

Questions about Better Platform
Find answers to common questions about Better.
What is Better Platform?
Better Platform is a health data platform built on openEHR and HL7 FHIR. It keeps the patient record in a repository the health system owns, and lets you build clinical applications, connect existing systems and admit AI tools on top of that record, under your own access rules.
Is Better Platform an EHR?
Not in the traditional sense. A traditional EHR is one application that holds the data in its own format. Better Platform is the record underneath your applications: Better Meds, a shared care record, care planning, the applications you build and partner products all read and write the same governed record.
Do we have to replace our current EHR?
No. The platform goes in next to what you run today. You start with one use case, connect the systems it needs through the Interoperability Hub, and retire a system only when you decide, after its data has been migrated and accepted.
Where does Better Platform run?
Hosted by Better, in your own cloud, or on premises. It can be delivered by Better, by one of 20+ delivery partners, or by your own team, with the same tools.
Which standards does Better Platform support?
openEHR for the clinical record and HL7 FHIR for the operational record. SNOMED CT, LOINC and local code systems are served by the platform, and IHE profiles and the International Patient Summary are used for exchange.
Is Better Platform ready for the European Health Data Space?
It is built for it. The International Patient Summary and cross-border exchange run on the platform’s openEHR and FHIR core.
How is AI access to patient data controlled?
No AI tool has access to patient data by default. The health system approves each AI tool, what data it may access and where it runs. Every admitted tool gets the same access control and audit as a clinician.
Who can build applications on Better Platform?
Health systems, software vendors, delivery partners and start-ups. In the App Builder you describe an application in plain language and refine it by point and click. Hive offers free courses and certification, and the Marketplace is where you publish what you build.
How does Better Platform avoid vendor lock-in?
The record and your clinical models stay yours, exportable in open formats at any time. Published applications run in your own environment, independent of the tools that built them.
